Girls' CCA v Gresham's

Saturday 13th October 2012
Result: Lost 2-1
Review: On Saturday CCA played Gresham’s , the game started with both teams playing a very steady game with few mistakes. Throughout the whole first half the possession was very 50/50. Felsted had some positive attacking plays but lacked the finishing touch. The score at half time was 0-0. Felsted started the second half very well with a super goal from Wizz Nicholas, putting Felsted in the lead. However Gresham’s replied soon after with a goal, making the score 1-1. The game was coming into the final 10 minutes and became very nervous viewing. Felsted became slightly scrappy and their basic skills broke down. This meant Gresham’s stole another goal, however Felsted did not give up and had a very near miss just before the final whistle. This made the final score 2-1 to Gresham’s.

Girls' U15 B v Gresham's

Saturday 13th October 2012
Result: Lost 7-0

Review: Gresham´s put out a strong side and despite our best efforts we were not able to beat them. Woman of the match was Natasha Bell who showed unbreakable spirit in goal, carrying on no matter what. Felsted played very well in the 2nd half, after a great half time talk from Major Eke (Miss Speight's replacement for the day) we carried on determinedly despite being a man down.

Girls' 1st XI v Gresham’s

Result: Won 6-4
Saturday 13th October 2012
Review: This was a scrappy encounter which saw Felsted produce spells of their best hockey and spells where they struggled to find any real fluidity. This statement was true of the early phases of the game with both sides not making any great headway in the quest for the opening goal. It took a fantastic weighted pass into space by Hattie Holmes to set Ellie Welsh away. Welsh used her pace to great effect before playing an accurate pass across the circle for Bryony Males to convert. Felsted were ahead, but not for long. With Felsted missing their captain the back four had a new look to it and Greshams seized an opportunity to get in behind Felsted's defence. A weighted pass caught the back four off guard and the Gresham's forward was able to convert her opportunity to bring the scores level. Ellie welsh continued to look dangerous and it was her who set up the second goal having been set on her way by Tamara Evans. This time is was Hattie Holmes who provided the finish to give Felsted the lead once more. Both sides had short corner chances before half time and both converted one, Tamara Evans the scorer of Felsted's routine, which meant the score at half time was 3-2. Felsted had chances at the start of the second half but it was Gresham's who grabbed the first goal to bring the scores level. With the game hanging in the balance Felsted began to look more dangerous. Tamara Evans continued to get forward to overload Greshams defence and it was her pass that put Marie Harzer through at the top of the circle to finish with a strike past the goalkeepers glove. Felsted added to their lead with a fantastic worked move involving numerous passes between Hattie Holmes and Bryony Males, which resulted in arguably the goal of the game, and then Ellie Mott-Brown converted a further short corner opportunity. Greshams sneaked another goal towards the end of the game but Felsted maintained their calm to keep to score to 6-4.

Girls' CCA v Stamford

Result: Won 5-3
Review: Felsted started out very strong with the majority of the possession and this resulted in there being two quick goals. The goal scorers were Wizz Nicholson and Anna Ehlers. Grace Prior started to enjoy her more attacking position in the team and added her name to the goal scorers, making the score 3-0 to Felsted. However Stamford kept fighting and they managed to get a goal back, so the half time score was 3-1. During the second half Felsted were still dominating possession and put a lot of pressure on Stamford’s attackers. Janneka Lind and Wizz Nicholson, with her second goal, added to the score board, making the score 5-1. Felsted then lost their concentration towards the end of the game and became too relaxed in the defence. Stamford took advantage of this and got two quick goals at the end. The final score was 5-3 to Felsted.

Girls' U15 B v Stamford

Result: Lost 6-3
Review: The teams were evenly matched, but the opposition took the advantage early in the second half with a strong attack. Throughout the match the Felsted girls played extremely well with the final score being 6-3 to Stamford. Paige Butler scored the first hat-trick of the season.

Girls' 1st XI v Stamford

Saturday 6th October 2012
 Result: Won 4-1
Review: Having been crowned Essex champions earlier on in the week the side that took to the field against Stamford looked very different from that which had been so successful on Wednesday. With six of the cup side missing through illness or injury a number of girls were given the opportunity to impress at 1st team level for the first time this season. The first 10 minutes were understandably a little shaky for the new look side and Stamford managed to convert a breakaway opportunity to put the home side behind 1-0. Felsted began to grow with confidence and Hattie Holmes and Clara Boeckmann were proving difficult for the Stamford defence to handle. The pair combined a number of times to draw good saves from the Stamford keeper but neither could bring Felsted back on level terms. About 15 minutes into the first half Lara Peck, year 9, was substituted on for her first experience of 1st team hockey. Ellie Welsh used her pace to good effect before hitting a cross to the far post. Peck was waiting and put the ball confidently into the back of the net with her first touch of the game. Soon after this the Boeckmann-Holmes combination finally resulted in a goal with Hattie Holmes demonstrating composure, finishing from close in. The second half was dominated by Felsted. Olivia Schwier was representing the 1st XI for the first time this season and played some fantastic threaded passes up to the forward line. It was one such pass the put Ellie Welsh clear through with a one on one opportunity against the goalkeeper. Welsh kept her cool and slotted the ball low into the right corner of the goal. Both Izzy Minks and Georgina Stevens, year 9, also made their debuts during the game and it was Minks who set up the final goal of the game for Hattie Holmes to score her second of the afternoon.

Girls' 1st XI Hockey - Essex Champions 2012

The U18 girls went into the Essex tournament full of confidence after two strong wins against Culford and Framlingham. That being said, it had been a number of years since Felsted U18s had been crowned Essex Champions as they had been continually pipped to the post by Coopers Coburn. The tournament saw the girls play 7 matches, with the Coopers Coburn game looming as the final match of the day.

The girls hit the ground running with strong 5-0 and 7-0 victories over Brentwood and King Johns respectively. The girls demonstrated their ability to create chance after chance, and centre forward Hattie Holmes was continually on hand to put the ball in the net to reward the creativity of those around her. They rode the wave of momentum for the next two games beating Forest 2-0 and Chigwell 5-1 ensuring they didn’t let their high standard of play drop.

Chelmsford County High School had a number of strong players down the centre of the pitch which gave the Felsted girls a tougher challenge to contend with. It took a fantastic lifted strike from Hattie Holmes into the right hand side netting of the goal to keep the winning ways going. A further 8-0 win over Bancrofts set up the final game against Coopers Coburn. Both sides had won all their games but Felsted’s goal difference was far superior heading into the match. Anna Middendorf dribbled past their centre midfield and full back before sliding the ball to Bryony Males to finish off giving Felsted the early lead. Felsted continued to look dangerous and prevented Coopers from getting into the game. On the final buzzer Felsted won a short corner, which Tamara Evans converted to make the final score Felsted 2 – Coopers Coburn 0.

The girls were an absolute credit to the school and played some of their best hockey of the season throughout the day. They now progress onto the regional round of the competition which will take place on November 8th at Bedford.

Girls' 1st XI v Framlingham

Saturday 29th September2012
Result: Won 2-1
Review: The early pressure in this game was very much in favour of the home side with Felsted struggling to come to terms with the pace of Framlingham's midfielders. It was a fast break through midfield that gave Framlingham a clear cut shooting opportunity and their centre forward slotted the ball home from close range to give then the 1-0 lead. Going behind seemed to spark Felsted into action and the pace and slickness of their play improved dramatically. Hattie Holmes and Ellie Mott-Brown were working hard to earn Felsted possession in the centre of the pitch, and clever distribution from these girls began to open up opportunities for the forwards. The Framlingham goalkeeper saved a barrage of shots from Bryony Males before a shot from Hattie Holmes deflected off the keepers pad into the goal to put Felsted back on level terms. Having got the equalizer Felsted grew with confidence and created numerous chances in the lead up to half time. Marie Harzer linked up well with Ellie Mott-Brown before playing a well placed pass to the top of the circle. Hattie Holmes timed her run to perfection and struck the ball with venom low into the bottom right hand corner. 2-1 at half time and Felsted were worthy of the lead. Having made slight changes to the defensive structure of the team at half time Felsted's defence looked secure throughout the second half. Maddie Smith allowed no right hand side attacks to develop and Lucy Muir remained disciplined for the full 60 minutes. A scary moment late in the game called Muir to make a defensive clearance off the line from behind the goalkeeper but all in all Felsted were worthy of their 2-1 victory. The girls are now looking to take their strong form into the Essex County Tournament on Wednesday as they begin their campaign for national glory.

Girls' U15B v Framlingham

Saturday 29th September 2012
Result: Won 4-1
Review: The U15 B Team played a tough match against Framlingham on Saturday 29th September. Felsted started off by scoring a great in the few first minutes by Joelle Feldberg. Then Sophie Wise and Hannah Stahl scored before the first half ended. In the second half, Framlingham was motivated and scored early. Sophie Wise, our saviour, scored an amazing goal again to win the match 4-1.

Girls' CCA v Framlingham

Saturday 29th September 2012
Result: Lost 3-2
Review: The game was very evenly matched from the start. Despite going 1 goal down the girls did not drop their heads and still had a great deal of attacking play, with Matrea Yip pushing the ball into the back corner for our first goal. There was a slight drop in concentration by Felsted and we went into the half-time talk with the score at 2-1 to Framlingham. The aim in the second half was to pressure hard in defence and keep moving in attack. We got that off to a good start by getting a quick goal (scored by Janneka Lind). She made a very well timed and accurate slap from the top of the circle. This made for intense viewing with the score at 2-2. Unfortunately Framlingham got a goal in the last five minutes of the match, making the final score 3-2 to Framlingham.
