BBC Sports Journalist, Ben Fryer challenges our top hockey strikers

Ben Fryer, BBC Sports Journalist for BBC Essex Radio, bravely took on the 1st XI girls hockey team and two of our top Yr 11 hockey boys, James Seager and Tom Edwards as Goal Keeper, all part of BBC’s Essex Radio’s ‘Try an Olympic Sport’ campaign.

You will be pleased to know that he survived, and was mightily impressed with the standard of goal scoring! Having never played hockey before in his life, he was given a quick two minute briefing by our Head of Hockey, Duncan Woods, before being kitted in the boys 1st XI goalie kit. The girls then started off hitting some gentle shots at him, before taking it up a gear with some higher flying shots. Then it was the turn of the boys, with James and Tom firing penalty flicks at him left, right and straight at his head! Ben was extremely pleased to make a save with his helmet and came away with just one bruise from his ordeal. Felsted’s fine hockey reputation remains firmly intact.
