Saturday
14th September v The Leys (Home) - Won 3 – 0
The girls arrived to the match on Saturday with a few start of season nerves floating about the group. It seemed like a long time ago that the group had been sat at Heathrow Airport departure lounge, ready to embark upon the two week tour of America back in July and the girls were keen to show how much they had improved since last season. These nerves were certainly apparent in the early exchanges which resulted in The Leys creating some excellent scoring opportunities only to be denied by Felsted’s Alex Back in goal.
As the nerves settled Felsted started to string some passes together and enjoyed some success in behind the Leys defence. Eventually the breakthrough came in the shape of a short corner. Lara Peck unleashed a vicious strike on goal which was well saved by the goalkeeper before Hattie Holmes pounced on the rebound and crashed the ball low into the bottom corner, 1-0 to Felsted. A second goal followed fairly quickly. Hattie Holmes did some excellent work along the left hand side baseline before pulling the ball back for Isabella Minks to strike low into the goal. The score remained 2-0 as they headed into half time.
The second half saw a much more controlled performance from Felsted with the back four looking secure and composed throughout. A measured threaded pass from Tamara Evans put Ellie Welsh through on goal and she hit the ball low past the keeper to put in Felsted’s third and final goal of the afternoon. A good start to the season for the team who will be back in action on Tuesday at Culford.
